For a glimpse of Miri’s history, you will find the Petroleum Science Museum and the Grand Old Lady on top of Canada Hill. The Grand Old Lady is Malaysia’s first inland oil drilling platform and one of Sarawak’s most important historical monuments. On this hill, there is an observatory platform where visitors can have an excellent view of the city.

In the city centre, take a casual stroll through the narrow streets and visit the shops selling huge variety of goods – it can be quite an experience!

One should also visit the Central Market where fresh produce from area farms is sold. For more exotic produce and wares from the upriver areas, the Farmer’s Market (Tamu Muhibbah) is a colourful native market where you will find a huge variety of local and exotic fruits and vegetables, homegrown rice, handicrafts and other items brought in by the natives and local farms.

Want to know where your supply of fresh fish and seafood come from? Head out to the Fish Market on Jalan Bendahara. This is where local fishermen land their catch very morning While there, you might want to pop next door to the Tua Pek Kong Temple for an insight into the religious rites of the local Chinese community.

You mustn’t miss the Miri City Fan located at Jalan Kipas, an award-winning urban park complex comprising a variety of theme gardens and a large amphitheatre where outdoor concerts are frequently held. Stop by the Miri Handicraft Centre to shop of beautifully crafted ethinic arts and crafts from beadworks, woodcravings, basketry and also variety of handicraft.

Complete your trip with a visit to the largest crocodile farm in Sarawak, the Miri Crocodile Farm cum Mini Zoo in Kuala Baram, the largest crocodile farm in northern Sarawak. The crocodile farm opens every day of the year, is home to thousands of crocodiles of different species as well as other exotic animals from tropical countries.

Every year Miri is host of one of the biggest events in Sarawak; Borneo Jazz (formerly known as Miri International Jazz Festival or MIJF) that usually takes place in the month of May. The event is held at the pavilion of Parkcity Everly Hotel. You will find an assembly of regional and international musicians from the US, Europe, Australia and Asia performing jazz funky latin, oriental jazz, carribean roots, blues, contemporary fusion, boogie woogie and more
